Week3-Reflection

This week's lecture was about "Picturesque", I've learned a few theories of that how to create a picturesque landscape. The Repton's guidelines rules made me very impressive and I found it was really helpful: A picturesque landscape was divided by 3 parts-A foreground; A middle ground; A background.

  • A foreground: regular, geometrical and designed for human use.
  • A middle ground: a serpentine park in the manner of Lancelot Brown.
  • A background: natural scenery, as little affected by man as possible.
I plan to use these rules to apply on creating my picturesque island.

Week3-Independent Tasks

Due to the Cryengine was kept stopping working and failed to save, I haven't got good images to show my custom island. The above is a video showing my working process. I need to start editing a new terrain.
Thisi is my 5th reference image which is from William Gipin's work.
Adding vegetation to terrain
Ground&mountain paint on terrain

Time of day change
Edit sun direction, colour of sky & sun& moon, stars density

Week 2-Reflection

In week 2's lecture, Rusell talked about the "real&unreal".It was about how we focusing on objects act when put under certain conditions. For example, how does light reflect of different surfaces, various ways of observing objects act under certain conditions and how they fall apart and change during the process.
This can put into relation to my first assignment, I'm trying to create a island with specific landform  and to apply a custom terrain texture suitable for my island's climatic conditions to express a sense of loneliness and peculiarity,  they're based on my last letter of my last name and last number of my student ID.

Week 1-Reflection

The lecture last week introduced about Sandbox and which really changes my mind. Sandbox is not only a game to provide players fun, it is a powerful program and everyone can have a try to edit it. I've now learned the true strength of Sandbox. I have great interests to work on with Sandbox later on. The lecture also gave us ideas about how the course was being organized, issues about experiment one and maker's expect, some example of past assignments, and the details of what we can achieve by working with the program, which are huge helpful for me.
