Ep2-Week3

Materials Research

 Glass:

-The main raw material used to make glass is sand. To make clear glass, a special sand called silica sand is used.
-This fine white sand is needed because it is very pure and does not contain other unwanted chemicals.
-Glass production also needs limestone, soda ash and other chemicals to colour the glass. The production of glass uses energy, both during the extraction of the sand as well as during transportation and processing. Large amounts of fossil fuels (coal, oil and gas) are used during these stages, which in turn produce the greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide.
-Glass doesnt decompose. It does take a long time to become a solid, but glass now will be glass in millions of years. Some types of glass can be made to decompose by adding chemicals similar to what etching does to glass. The term devitrication refers to the decompositition of glass but this is under forced chemical changes and not something that's going to happen in a natural state. Glass takes thousands of years to become a solid. Glass darkens as it ages as well. Lava glass or obsidian is glass found in nature and can be dated back to the beginning of the Earth, and is still glass.

Concrete:
-Concrete is made out of mixing cement, sand and gravel together.
-The lifespan of concrete will depend on the design life, the environment and service condition, and preventative maintenance practices. Design life would roughly be around 50-70 years.
-Is widely used for making architectural structures, foundations, brick/block walls, pavements, bridges/overpasses, highways, runways, parking structures, dams, pools, pipes, footing for gates, fences and poles and even boats.
-Concrete can be damaged by fire, aggregate expansion, sea water effects, bacterial corrosion, calcium leaching, physical damage and chemical damage.

Marble:

-Marble is a non-foliated metamorphic rock composed of re-crystallized carbonate minerals, most commonly calcite or dolomite.
-Is commonly used for sculpture and building materials.
-Is susceptible to chemical weathering.
-Marble holds up better than limestone in both acid and unpolluted rainwater, but it will show signs of weathering in time. Water enter small holes in the marble at this point, worsening the weathering. This phenomenon is known as surface flaking.
-Weathering is the natural breakdown of rocks into smaller particle sized and different forms. Since marble is a metamorphic rock, the properties of marble and limestone are similar.

 Abandonment Refenrence Images

For my trailer and scene theme I have to think about the question of “What would happen if every human on Earth disappeared?" The various events that may occur after people disappear suddenly. I'd like to show the change of  Rundin House's before and after that have been abandoned by people.
